Family Devotions

Family Devotions
Len Gane

A1 Importance
B1 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7, NKJV)
B2 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16, NKJV)
A2 Tips
B1 Designate a set time. This may be after a meal or some other regular time. The total time may be only 5-10 minutes. You can do it! You must do it to grow spiritually and together.
B2 Commit importance, priority, to it.
B3 Minimize distractions. Turn off the tablet, phone, radio, TV, etc.
B4 Use an easier to read translation (GNB, NLT, NIV, NRSV). Use other versions for study (NKJV, NASB, etc.). Read the Bible, not a story book for devotions. You might be tempted to use a devotional, but read the Bible. Use a devotional for other times during the day.
B5 Read by paragraphs. One paragraph a day. If you have children who can read, have them read one verse apiece.
B6 Explain the passage simply. Discuss it.
B7 Pray together. Pray each other.
B8 An option may be to memorize a passage together or sing one verse of a song.
A3 Plan
B1 Start with the Gospel according to Mark.
B2 This is my outline, but many Bible have the passages divided by a titled section.
